Pepena is Marquesan for “creation or reinterpretation.”
This acoustic band, created in 2010 by four young Polynesians with a passion for music, skillfully merges rock, blues, jazz and reggae, all sung in either English, French, Spanish, or Tahitian. With lead singer Raimana, Pepena has been able to find its place on the music scene with its covers of international hits as well as traditional Tahitian songs and original creations. In December 2013, the group released its first album, Unu, that has 12 tracks and is available from popular music download sites. Another first occurred in March 2014 when Pepena performed in a series of concerts abroad for the famous Polynesian festival “Pacifica” in Auckland, New Zealand. Success is on the agenda for this band set to perform in Europe and Japan in 2014.
