This is the cultural event of the year. This elaborate song and dance competition, organized for the first time in 1881, brings many troupes to the To’ata main stage for six evenings of exceptional competitions, followed by three other nights dedicated to awards and winner performances. The dance groups perform choreographies prepared months in advance in two categories: “amateur” and “professional.” To win first prize in the professional category is a great honor. The dancers must perform several pieces dressed in vegetal and traditional costumes, which are also awarded prizes. The musical ensembles also compete in a variety of categories. This emblematic event is very exciting.
