For 14 years, the Maison de la Culture has organized at the end of the year a contest of traditional dances intended to be resolutely different from the Heiva even if serves it as a springboard. This event called Hura Tapairu is bound to stimulate creativity and is designed for small groups of dance that present original works, inspired by the cultural heritage of the Fenua but in a context of greater freedom than during the Heiva. The show, which has gained a very strong personality, attracts high level troupes from the entire world. Thus, for this 2018 edition, the Maison de la culture decides to open a contest dedicated to foreign groups. It will be the first edition of the International Hura Tapairu whose groups (mainly from America) will also perform before the jury of Hura Tapairu, as both events are held in parallel. As a bonus, they will be associated with an exhibition and sale of handicrafts in the hall of the Grand Théâtre.
