Heiva Horse Racing

1 July - 5 August

It has been a long time since horse racing has been a part of the Heiva festivities. However, this will change on Sunday, July 1 at the Hippodrome de Pirae (Pirae Racetrack). Even though jockeys raced barefoot and bareback wearing pareos when this space was built in 1955, this tradition has been restricted for safety reasons. IVF Va’a World Sprint Championships

16 July - 26 July

For the third time, French Polynesia will host the world championships for speed va’a pad-dling (first held in Pirae in 1986 then in Bora Bora in 2002). This is the 18th year for the world championships, which will start on July 16 for 11 days of competition. “Expect nothing and be ready for anything!” This motto famous in water sports circles still stands for this 2018 edition. This last challenge on the championship tour involving several boarding sport disciplines takes place in Teahupo'o. Rautirare Festival

3 August - 5 August

This beautiful event takes place on the public beach at Mataiea where for three days, several athletic land and aquatic disciplines will take place: surfing, bodyboarding, stand up paddle boarding, outrigger canoe/va’a racing, beach soccer and more. All this will occur within the presence of international surfing champion Michel Bourez, sponsor of this annual event and honorary member of the Rautirare Surf Club.

Tahiti Pro Surf Teahupo’o

10 August - 21 August

The famous surfing event (knowns as Billabong Pro Tahiti until as recently as last year) will take place from August 10 at Teahupo’o, the world famous surfing spot.
